The generosity of many donors has enabled The Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation to build a significant endowment fund from which annual income is used to support medical research at Dalhousie Medical School. This fund is professionally managed to produce a reliable income stream each year as well as modest capital growth to ensure that the purchasing power of the fund is preserved.
The endowment fund contains a number of individual named funds, each honouring a donor, a family or other individuals. Established through a bequest in a will, an outright gift or both, these named funds will live on in perpetuity supporting vital research benefiting future generations.
The income from a named endowment may be directed to a specific area of research or be used annually in the area of greatest need. A minimum of $25,000 is required to establish a named fund. This amount may be pledged over an agreed number of years and may use a variety of gift types. Once established succeeding generations of your family also may contribute to the fund.
A named endowment fund agreement form usually contains a short biography about the person in whose honour the fund has been established. This document becomes a permanent record of the donor and the motivations for their gift.
We would be pleased to provide you with information about our endowment fund and discuss with you and your advisors how you can establish your own named fund.
