April 21, 2010: Anniversary Celebration!

On Wednesday April 21, 2010, over 550 guests were in attendance at the Cunard Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia to join in the celebration of two significant anniversaries – the 10th Anniversary of the annual Faculty of Medicine and Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation (DMRF) Community of Scholar Awards and the 30th Anniversary of the annual Molly Appeal campaign.   Click here for full story.

On Tuesday, September 7, 2010, a new Molly Appeal campaign officially launches in support of neuroscience research.

April 21, 2010:  Anniversary Celebration!

On Wednesday April 21, 2010, over 550 guests were in attendance at the Cunard Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia to join in the celebration of two significant anniversaries - the 10th Anniversary of the Community of Scholars Awards and the 30th Anniversary of the annual Molly Appeal campaign.

Over the previous nine years, Community of Scholar awards have been presented to 85 members of the Dalhousie Faculty of Medicine for excellence in professionalism, education and research.  At this year's anniversary event, 8 more individuals were recognized with awards including the following DMRF awards:  Dr. Susan Howlett received the Max Forman Research Award, while Dr. Christopher Sinal and Dr. Ryan D'Arcy received Awards of Excellence.

April 2, 2009: Beatrice Hunter Cancer Research Institute launches!
Atlantic Canada has a new cancer research institute, following the launch of the Beatrice Hunter Cancer Research Institute in Halifax today. The institute is named in honour of the late Beatrice Hunter of River John, Nova Scotia, whose $12.5 million bequest to the Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation ten years ago sparked a decade of growth in local cancer research. The Beatrice Hunter Cancer Research Institute is a network of individual researchers and key academic institutions, hospitals and charitable organizations in the region. It will bring together a diverse community of cancer researchers to pursue the common goal of saving lives and easing the burden of cancer on individuals, families and society. April 23, 2008: Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation honours four outstanding researchers at the Community of Scholars gala. Dr. Roy Duncan received the Max Forman Research Award, while Dr. John Archibald, Dr. Ratika Parkash and Dr. Yukiko Asada received DMRF Awards of Excellence.

April 19, 2008: Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation Chair Frank Sobey announces the appointment of Alison Edwards as the foundation's new Executive Director. View announcement.

November 2007: DMRF Clinical Research Fellow, Dr. Karim Mukhida, finds potential relief for neuropathic pain and publishes results in the international journal, Stem Cell.

October 19, 2007: Official announcement of $15 million in federal funding for the Life Sciences Research Institute (LSRI). Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation committed initial cornerstone funding of $2 million to the LSRI. View Dalhousie Medical School news release.

September 2007: Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation launches the 2007 Molly Appeal, this year dedicated to cardiovascular research. Proceeds will help establish a Centre for Excellence in Heart Function Studies at Dalhousie Medical School. Learn more about this year's campaign for heart research.

August 2007: Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation awards $40,000 to the first five Molly Neuroscience Trainees. Each of these graduate students is receiving $8,000 to pursue neuroscience studies at Dalhousie Medical School.

Spring 2007: DMRF awards $143,537 in equipment grants to six talented investigators through its 2006-2007 Equipment Grant Competition.
