The Max Forman Research Award

The Max Forman Senior Research Prize is the Foundation’s most prestigious award, presented annually to a member of the Faculty of Medicine whose research achievements have enriched the academic environment and advanced scientific understanding. This prize was established many years ago by Sophie Forman in memory of her late husband, businessman and philanthropist Max Forman. It traditionally alternated from year to year between a junior and a senior member of the faculty. With the establishment of three new junior awards, however, The Max Forman Prize is now awarded annually at the Community of Scholars dinner as a senior prize of $10,000.

2010 Max Forman Research Award:

Dr. Susan Howlett, Depts. of Pharmacology and Geriatric Medicine

Dr. Howlett's studies of the impact of age and gender on heart-cell function have opened new frontiers in the field of heart research.  She has discovered why the ability of each heart cell to contract -- and therefore pump blood -- declines with age, pointing the way to potential new drugs to protect heart-cell function in aging people.
